PlayTherapyTraining.com was established by Edward F. Hudspeth, PhD, LPC, NCC, R.Ph., RPT-S, ACS, Board Qualified Supervisor. Dr. Hudspeth offers training and supervision for therapists interested in earning the Registered Play Therapist credential from the Association for Play Therapy.

Credentials

Dr. Hudspeth graduated from the University of Mississippi's School of Pharmacy in 1989 and became licensed in Mississippi and Arkansas. After eight years of practice as a pharmacist, he returned to the University of Mississippi and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and French in 2000 and Masters of Education in Counseling in 2002. Dr. Hudspeth was then recognized as a nationally certified counselor. In 2004, he became a licensed professional counselor. In 2005 he gained the Registered Play Therapist credential and in 2007, he became a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. His most recent achievement was earning a doctoral degree in counselor education. He is also an approved clinical supervisor and a Mississippi board qualified supervisor.

Experience and Theory

Dr. Hudspeth served 6 years at the Oxford Play Therapy Training Institute. For three of the six years, he was the assistant executive director. He is also the past President of the Mississippi Association for Play Therapy. He has over 7 years of experience as a counselor, and has trained and supervised numerous other professionals in the fields of counseling and play therapy. His professional memberships include the American Counseling Association, Mississippi Counseling Association, Association for Play Therapy, and the Mississippi Association for Play Therapy.His theoretical orientation is integrative including person-centered, Adlerian, and cognitive-behavioral theories. Within play therapy, he primarily operates from a non-directive standpoint.

Supervision and Training

Dr. Hudspeth was trained in clinical supervision as a part of the course work in the Doctorate program in Counselor Education at the University of Mississippi. He completed two 3-semester hour courses, which included basic and advanced supervision skills. During these classes, he engaged in the supervision of Master level, graduate student counselors enrolled in the Counselor Education program. In this roll he functioned either as their university supervisor, or, if on-site, as their site supervisor at OPTTI Counseling Center and/or the University of Mississippi’s Student Counseling Center. While training as a supervisor, he engaged in routine, weekly supervision with a faculty member of the Counselor Education program at the University of Mississippi. This supervision continued for 4 years until he received his Registered Play Therapist and Supervisor credential in January 2007. Dr. Hudspeth is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) as credentialed by The Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE), and a board qualified supervisor as credentialed by the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors.
